CJ Wilson Mazda
What do the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and Mazda have in common? They both have CJ Wilson on their team. Our Horsepower for an Hour crew recently stopped in to CJ Wilson Mazda in Southern Ca. to get familiar with the all-new 2016 Mazda CX-9 crossover vehicle. The CJ Wilson group has multiple Mazda showrooms and nobody knows the Mazda product better than these folks. Our test model was the Signature level, It’s the largest model Mazda builds, and yet, the 2016 Mazda CX-9 still handles like a Mazda should.
2016 Mazda CX-9
The All-New Mazda CX-9 is in a class of vehicles that has become hugely popular here in the United States. With families continually growing larger, and life getting busier, the need for passenger and cargo space is at an all time premium. That’s where the all-new CX-9 does a great job of setting itself apart from all the competition. Redesigned from bumper to bumper, the CX-9 is not only spacious, it looks fantastic, especially on the optional 20-inch wheels.
The 2.5 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine is plenty powerful capable of producing 250 horsepower (on 93 octane) and an impressive 310 lb-ft of torque. The Skyactiv technology Mazda employs in their powertrain systems has no equal and is truly remarkable. The six-speed automatic transmission is geared exceptionally well to the weight of the vehicle and is available in both front wheel and all-wheel drive.
Chassis and Suspension
The chassis and suspension are well-tuned and provide excellent handling with exceptional maneuverability. The steering is precise and responsive with a great organic feel. The ride is seriously smooth even on broken pavement. Mazda has positioned the CX-9 as a luxury SUV, with premium styling, features and materials, but without the luxury pricing. The CX-9 was completely redesigned for the 2016 model year. The second generation CX-9 has far better performance than before and the all-new chassis is significantly lighter while the wheelbase is a 2.2-inch-longer, which adds legroom and eases rear passenger entry and exit.
Interior and Infotainment
The 2016 Mazda CX-9′s interior is a unique blend of premium materials and cutting-edge technology. The easy to use central touchscreen display and the Mazda Connect infotainment system is industry leading with voice control and Bluetooth phone connection. The top-end “Signature” model includes LED interior and exterior lighting, Nappa leather and rosewood interior trim. Advanced technology such as forward collision warning, radar cruise control, lane-departure warning, brake mitigation, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert are only a few of the advancements available on the new CX-9. The powerful Bose audio system and the heads-up display make for a comfortable, relaxing drive whether you’re headed out on the open road or just going to the market. We spent the day out on one of Southern California’s coastline routes and had a blast. The feel is both sport and luxury and the level of quality in this vehicle is equal to some German imports costing twice as much.
CX-9 offers the best value in it’s class
The 2016 Mazda CX-9 offers a combination of style, performance, premium features and fuel efficiency and is an exceptional value, it really is a luxury SUV without the luxury price. Our test model was priced at $44,915 and was fully loaded. This is as fine as it gets in a 3-row crossover, anyone seeking the best bang for their car-buying buck should give the new CX-9 a close look. We strongly recommend visiting CJ Wilson Mazda for your next set of wheels. The teams at any of the CJ Wilson Mazda dealer network are well prepared, product knowledgeable, extremely professional, and very kind. Special Thanks to Bassam Mahmud and his entire staff, all of us here at Horsepower Broadcasting are grateful to them for allowing us full use of their inventory during our visit.
