All-New 2017 Ford Explorer XLT

2017-explorer-transparentThe all-new 2017 Ford Explorer XLT is definitely one of the coolest trucks we’ve looked at in some time. Ford has long been one of the world’s premiere truck builders, producing both style and strength, along with comfort and reliability. Since 1991, the Ford Explorer has become one of the most popular sport utility vehicles on the road. Back in 2011, Ford redesigned the Explorer to a have a more modern unibody and this all-new 2017 Explorer is arguably the best mid-sized SUV on the road.

Vista Ford of Oxnard
Vista ford BlackOur Horsepower for an Hour crew met once again at Vista Ford in Oxnard, California. Vista Ford is one of America’s premiere Ford dealers located in the
Southern California area. The crew at Vista Ford is among the finest in the automotive industry. They are well-prepared, extremely product-knowledgeable, and very professional. The Explorer was made available to us for as long as we liked and we made it a point to spend the majority of the day in the driver’s seat. From the moment we got in the vehicle, it became clear to us that the Ford engineers have succeeded in creating the best Explorer in the history of the company.

Engine and Powertrain

3-5-liter-ecoboost-v6When it comes to engine design and development, no one does it better than Ford. The all-new 2017 Explorer is available with three engine options: the 3.5-liter V-6 engine, the 2.3-liter turbocharged EcoBoost I-4 engine, and the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6. All engine options will be paired with an industry-leading six-speed automatic transmission. Ford’s automatic transmission designs are some of the best in the world. Durability and reliability are just a few terms that accurately describe the world-class transmission designs Ford Motor Company offers. The XLT Sport package is all-new for 2017 with several styling upgrades and 20-inch Magnetic Gray Wheels, a Magnetic Gray grille, mirror caps, and rear appliqué

Chassis and Interior

2017_ford_explorer_-infotainmentThe chassis and suspension are well designed with excellent feel and ride quality. The organic feel in the steering is more reminiscent of a sports car than an SUV. Cornering was surprisingly crisp and responsive with little evidence of body roll, even when we pushed it aggressively into corners.
The seats, which are heated on some models, are both supportive and comfortable, the cushions are soft yet firm enough with just the right amount of bolstering. The dual-panel moonroof opens wide and provides a nice touch.

Technology

by simple voice command.

The all-new Sync 3 is one of the best infotainment systems available in the automotive industry. It’s quick, and we didn’t experience one issue when it came to the user interface during our test drive. To put it simply and succinctly, it works exactly as you would expect it to. It’s simple to use, the virtual buttons on the touchscreen are large and easy to identify and best of all, it’s not distracting in the least. Using Bluetooth streaming, switching between navigation or the radio is all a cinch. Plug in your iPhone and it instantly indexes the music and starts playing. Want to play Pandora off your iPhone? No problem, just plug it in and it works.

Horsepower for an Hour

Donny and SpenceIn summary, the all-new 2017 Ford Explorer XLT is an outstanding SUV that’s not only reliable, but also looks great. It’s clear to us why Ford continues to be a world leader, one drive in this all-new Explorer and you’ll know why as well. When in the Southern California area, all of us here at Horsepower Broadcasting recommend stopping in to Vista Ford in Oxnard, California to check out the newest Ford and Lincoln product lines.
