2016 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat

2016 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is Awesome

2016 Dodge challenger hellcatThe 2016 Dodge Challenger hellcat is without question one of the coolest modern muscle cars ever built. Equipped with a 6.2 liter firebreathing V8, the car has one mission and one mission alone, and that is to chew up the competition and stand alone atop of the current muscle car class. The Challenger SRT Hellcat is great at being an intense performance car that’s exceptional in everyday use. It looks cool, it’s comfortable, it sounds fantastic,  and it’s reliable.

Crown Dodge

crown dodgeOur Horsepower for an Hour team met at Crown Dodge here in Southern California to get re-acquainted with the all-new 2016 SRT Challenger Hellcat. Crown Dodge is one of Americas Premiere Dodge dealers and the crew at Crown Dodge is among the finest in the industry, they are well prepared, extremely product knowledgeable, and very professional. The car was made available to us for as long as we liked and we spent considerable time in the drivers seat. It’s clear to us that Dodge’s engineers have succeeded in making this a well-rounded performance car that’s not only easy to drive and absurdly fast in a straight line, but also highly capable on a road course as well. The weight distribution across the platform is near perfect and the organic feel of the road through the steering wheel makes for an awesome driving experience.

Hellcat Powertrain

2016-challenger-performance-engines-hellcatIf you’re new to the Dodge Hellcat you may ask, what’s so special about this car? Well the short answer is “performance”, The Challenger Hellcat will rocket you from 0-60 mph in about 3 seconds, blow through the quarter mile in 11 seconds and has a top speed of about 200 miles an hour.

The Hellcat is the most powerful engine that’s ever come out of the Dodge Garage kicking out 707 Horsepower and an incredible 650 pound feet of torque. Earlier this year, our team out at the Horsepower Performance Division looked closely at this engine and to say it’s impressive is the understatement of the decade.

Heavy-duty forged pistons and connecting rods, along with a forged-steel crankshaft is just the beginning. The block and cylinder heads are equally impressive and the supercharger’s internals are a thing of beauty as it produces 11.6 pounds of boost and uses integrated heat exchangers.

Challenger Six Speed Manual or the Eight Speed Automatic

The standard Hellcat has an externally cooled, heavy-duty six-speed manual transmission that’s essentially the same transmission you’d find in the Viper SRT but, the coolest option for us is the performance rated eight speed automatic, this is one part of the car that we’ve researched extensively and we could almost write this entire piece just on the transmission, but we’ll save that for another time, the redesigned turbine assembly and the gearsets would take up too much time and space.

Chassis and Suspension

The suspension is refined from top to bottom and no part of the chassis has been left unattended. The front and rear brakes are Brembo style with vented and slotted rotors and multi piston calipers and the Hellcat comes with 275/40ZR20 Pirelli all-season performance tires on lightweight 20 x 9.5-inch split-spoke forged aluminum wheels.

The all-new SRT Challenger interior is both sporty and comfortable

The interior of the new 2016 SRT Dodge Challenger Hellcat is a great blend of sport and comfort. It incorporates cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, uconnect & other technology including 0-60 time, reaction time, and a lap timer. It comes standard with a Class-Exclusive 7-inch reconfigurable Driver Information Digital Cluster Display. Everything about this car is almost unbelievable, and it’s the most powerful beast to ever come out of the Mopar camp.
