2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport
Here at Horsepower Broadcasting, we have opportunity to preview and experience dozens of new car models each year and few automakers have impressed us more than Hyundai. Our latest test drive was the all-new 2017 Santa Fe Sport and it was not only a blast to drive, it is easy to afford, and has outstanding stylish new exterior upgrades. Now getting to all of the fun and looking good doing it is easier than ever with the 2017 Santa Fe Sport.
Our Horsepower for an Hour crew recently headed out to Win Hyundai in Southern California to get our first driving experience with new 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. From the moment we got in the driver’s seat, we knew we were in for one heck of a memorable experience. Few automakers have impressed us the way Hyundai has, especially when it comes to fit and feel. Whether it’s a cross-country drive or a quick trip to the market, the experience is so visceral, it leaves you wanting to relive it again and again. With an impressive amount of selection, we found it easy to select the correct Santa Fe for our test drive at Win Hyundai.
Interior and Cargo Space
The Santa Fe Sport’s interior is pleasantly laid out with an impressive amount of cargo space, at just over 71 cubic feet of storage capacity it is ready for any weekend ski trip, soccer games, or any other excursion you may have planned. The center console area has been redesigned to offer improved ergonomics and the available 8 inch touch screen audio with navigation system is an industry leader. If it’s sunlight and fresh air you prefer, then the all-new Santa Fe is your ticket to a good time. The huge, available panoramic sunroof offers you more of both compared to other competitors regular-sized sunroofs. Second-row passengers get the unmistakable feeling of luxury from the available heated rear seats, integrated side sunshades and second-row seats that slide and recline. The second-row seats have added flexibility and functionality with their 40/20/40 split-folding design. Another cool feature we were impressed by was the rearview camera which is standard on the Santa Fe Sport and when it comes time to connect a smartphone or other music source to the system, it’s easy and user friendly with Hyundai’s USB and auxiliary input jacks conveniently included.
Powertain and Performance
When it comes to power and performance, the 2017 Huyndai Santa Fe Sport is certain to impress even the strictest of critics. Our test model was equipped with the standard GDI 2.4L 4-cylinder engine producing 185 hp and 178 lb.-ft. of torque and was plenty powerful in those tight on-ramp type situations or for those occasions when a burst of power is necessary. The Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (D-CVVT) and other innovative engineering designs deliver the perfect balance of horsepower and fuel efficiency averaging an impressive 27 MPG, plus towing capability. The available 2.0L GDI 4-cylinder engine features a twin-scroll turbo that pumps out 240 hp and 260 lb.-ft. of torque. Engineered to run on regular unleaded gas, its highly advanced combustion chamber coefficiency is unrivaled in today’s automotive industry. Our favorite powertrain component with this vehicle is undoubtedly the automatic transmission. With nearly perfect speed ratios geared precisely to the weight of the vehicle, this 6-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC balances power delivery with impressive fuel efficiency. Along with the superb engine and transmission design, the available Active Cornering Control AWD gives drivers improved traction and greater cornering capability in turns by transferring engine torque to the rear wheels and applying braking force to the inside rear wheel. The result is improved cornering performance and all-weather capability.
If it’s safety you’re concerned with, look no further, Hyundai has loaded the all-new Santa Fe Sport with brilliant safety features inside and out. Some of the available features include Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross-traffic Alert and Lane Change Assist. Without question, one of the coolest features we discovered during our visit was the “Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection” this system uses both a camera and radar sensor. If a crash is imminent and the driver does not react, the system deploys Automatic Emergency Braking. The system can even apply full brake-force stopping power from 5 to 50 mph. When a pedestrian is detected, full stopping power is automatically applied from 5 to 43 mph, that is technology and innovation at it’s finest.
