2017 Dodge Durango SXT 4×2

The all-new 2017 Dodge Durango SXT SUV 4×2 is one of the best designed, best built, coolest SUV’s we’ve experienced in quite some time. Dodge offers the Durango in four trim levels–Citadel, GT, R/T, and SXT–each with a choice of rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD). Regardless of which trim level you select, you’re definitely in for a memorable driving experience.

Crown Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep

Crown Dodge is one of America’s premiere showrooms

Our Horsepower Broadcasting Team recently met out at Crown Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, in Southern California to get a heads up on this all-new Durango. Our test model was the SXT 4×2 with the plenty capable 3.6 liter V6 Pentastar engine and the world class 8 speed automatic transmission.  Also included is the three-zone automatic climate control, rear-seat outlets, a full-length floor console with 12-volt power outlets and a USB port. Chrysler’s Uconnect infotainment with a 5.0-inch screen and 6-speaker audio system is one of the best platforms in the industry.

Powertrain and Performance

Dodge’s new Torqueflite 8-speed is one of the most fuel efficient transmissions in the automotive industry

The 3.6-liter V6 engine produces 293 horsepower, with an impressive 260 lb-ft of torque. The ZF designed eight-speed automatic rear wheel drive transmission is arguably the finest transmission on the road. With a 4.71:1 first gear ratio and dual overdrive ratio’s, not only does the Durango accelerate exceptionally well, it also gets an incredible 26 mpg fuel economy on the highway. The new 2017 Durango is also capable of towing up to 6,200 pounds with the V6 engine and 7,400 pound with the available V8.

Quality materials and ergonomic layout define Durango’s interior

The all-new 2017 Durango is not only stylish on the exterior, it also has a good looking and versatile interior. Whether you choose the highest trim levels or opt for something more mid-range you’ll find the stitching and quality materials featured are durable, long-lasting, and pleasant to the touch. Overall, the interior is clean and uncluttered, with well-organized controls and an easy-to-use Uconnect infotainment system. The 8-way power front seats are supple and supportive with great adjustability, The lumbar supports provide plenty of reinforcement making long trips easy and painless. The third row seating has room for two and provides ample pleasant space with plenty of shoulder and headroom.  If cargo is what you’re concerned about, the Durango offers impressive storage capacity. Wit 84.5 cubic feet behind the front row (with the rear seats folded), 47.7 cubic feet behind the second row and 17.2 cubic feet behind the third row,  those hockey trips, soccer weekends, or golf tournaments are no problem and easily handled.

The Chrysler Uconnect platform is an industry leader.

The Durango features the Uconnect infotainment system, which has become one of our favorite platforms. In our opinion, the Uconnect is the most intuitive infotainment system in the automotive industry. The touchscreen icons quickly take you to the desired menu where additional choices are well displayed and easily located. It’s a simple system to learn and works extremely well, the Uconnect platform is the most intelligent system we’ve experienced.  It includes either a 5.0-inch or 8.4-inch touchscreen with a standard 6-speaker audio system, SD card slot, USB port, auxiliary jack, and two 12-volt outlets. Other available features are; SiriusXM Radio, Traffic, and Travel Link.  Another cool option that was of particular interest to our program director, was the 9-speaker Alpine audio system with a subwoofer and a 506-watt amplifier.

When it comes to safety, no one does it like Dodge. Available safety features for the Durango include the latest autonomous technologies such as adaptive cruise control with stop, advanced brake assist, blind-spot monitoring and cross-path detection. Every Durango has multiple airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, rain brake support, ready alert breaking, and trailer-sway control. Combine those features with forward-collision warning with active braking, ParkSense rear park assist and rear backup camera, and LaneSense lane-departure warning and you have a vehicle that is not only safe, but looks great, with unmatched  versatility and comfort.
